Maitland is a charming suburban city of about 19,500 residents in Orange County, situated roughly 9 miles north of downtown Orlando and immediately adjacent to Winter Park. Named after Captain William Seton Maitland, a Scottish settler who purchased land here in the mid-1800s, the city has cultivated a distinctive identity built around arts, culture, lakes, and a pace of life that feels intentionally slower than the metro area surrounding it.
The Art and History Museums of Maitland are the city’s cultural crown jewels. The Maitland Art Center, opened in 1937 by artist and architect André Smith, is one of the few surviving examples of Mayan Revival architecture in the southeastern United States. The campus includes the Historical Museum, the Telephone Museum, and the Carpentry Shop Museum. Lake Lily Park hosts the popular Maitland Farmers’ Market every Sunday, drawing vendors and visitors from across the region. The Enzian Theater is Central Florida’s only full-time independent cinema, serving dinner and drinks during screenings and hosting the Oscar-qualifying Florida Film Festival each April. Quinn Strong Park and Maitland Community Park provide sports facilities and walking trails.
